Puppet CEO is gearing up to take the company public.

Puppet
Puppet

She has her hands full. She’s overseeing an ambitious open source-based company on the cusp of going public with $40 million in fresh capital. These come from funds led by Blackrock in the bank, and busy adding purpose built business solutions for compliance, security, and self-service at the company.

The former VMware executive is among the rare breed of CIOs (for two years at observability platform New Relic) to have stepped into the CEO role. Along with 25 years of experience scaling companies globally in a range of leadership roles, she retains hands-on technical chops, having started out as a software engineer at Accenture (“back when COBOL was cool”; The Stack: “COBOL‘s still cool”; Wassenaar: “I’m very employable…”).

Puppet CEO Yvonne Wassenaar: “People tend to commingle public cloud with cloud native…”

She has been at the helm of Portland, Oregon-headquartered  Puppet since January 2019. There she has sharpened focus on specialised tools for larger commercial organisations, and overseen the addition of a wide range of new offerings at the open source-based software configuration management (CM) and deployment provider. Traditionally used to “pull the strings” on multiple application servers simultaneously – as Puppet eyes a chunk of the growing compliance and security markets.

The CEO is gearing up to take the company public later this year. She believes it is ready for after strong numbers last year. She tells The Stack: “In 2020, Puppet’s revenue was north of $100 million. It was growing as we added new customers. We also expanded within our existing enterprise customers and increased the average size of our deals. Our renewal rates are close to 90% and our expansion rates are close to 120%.  Gross margins are +80% and we have a strong profit/loss position for a company of our size”.

Zabbix 5.2 released with support of IoT and complex synthetic monitoring

The new release includes complex synthetic monitoring, significant security-related improvements and monitoring of IoT and industrial devices among other improvements.

“With this release, we are getting closer to a new age of monitoring. We are widening Zabbix capabilities with such important functionalities as complex scenario-based monitoring, native support of IoT protocols, and the strictest security standards,” says Alexei Vladishev, Zabbix founder and CEO.

Zabbix monitoring solution provides numerous out-of-the-box integrations with messaging, ticketing, and alerting systems. The new release expands the list of supported services and applications that can be monitored effortlessly. Zabbix one-click deployment is available on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, IBM/RedHat Cloud, Oracle, Yandex, and Digital Ocean cloud platforms.

Zabbix 5.2 comes with more than 35 new features and enhancements, meet some of them:

Synthetic monitoring enables flexible metric collection and advanced availability checks by utilizing scripted user-defined scenarios.  It also provides complex interaction with different HTTP APIs providers, including cloud APIs.

Powerful insights. This functionality enables Zabbix to generate smart alerts using efficient data analysis and anomaly detection. This functionality has enormous business value as it allows to analyze and inform users of long-term variations of key IT metrics as well as typical KPIs of:

  • Business performance
  • Sales and marketing
  • Warehousing
  • Human resources
  • Customer support and others.

External vault. Zabbix introduces integration with HashiCorp Vault product for storage of sensitive information such as passwords, keys, various API tokes, etc in a secure way.

Granular user roles are a huge step towards a more convenient, safe, and manageable monitoring platform for global teams. It brings lots of improvements for multitenant environments and allows to have fine-grained control for access to API methods, UI elements, and user actions for different groups of users.

Support of IoT protocols. Zabbix now natively supports the most common protocols for monitoring of IoT sensors and industrial equipment.

Load balancing for UI and API. Zabbix UI and API now can be used in load-balancing scenarios for HA and horizontal performance scaling. Frontend instances can be deployed as physical or virtual machines, containers in Kubernetes cluster or cloud platforms.

More detailed information about the technical features included in the newest release will be revealed and explained during the annual Zabbix Summit that will happen online this year on this Friday, October 30: https://www.zabbix.com/events/zabbix_summit_2020.

New one-day extra training courses introduced
